QR Code: Never Lose a Box Again

I’ve added a printable QR code on every box page.

This’ll make life easier for anyone who goes to get a box from the freezer, but forgot the box location between getting up from their desks and arriving at the freezer.

Just scan the code with your phone and you won’t have to remember or write down the box location anymore.

You can also print out the code (just click it), stick it on a box that’s in your freezer and use your phone to check the box contents instead of having to open the box.

Tray Customization: Labels and Colours

Personalize your tray organization with a new cell labeling feature:

• Click on any location in the box contents table (the one where you edit the box contents)
• Add a custom label and choose a color

This is just the beginning – I’m working on more selection tools to make organization even smoother.

Upgraded User Roles

There are three user roles now:

• Administrators have all the power and full access to everything
• Seers can see the contents of all boxes, but can only edit the ones they are assigned to (or boxes that anyone can edit)
• Regular users can only edit boxes assigned to them (or everyone) and cannot see other box contents.

You can update roles when editing a user from your Lab Dashboard.

Updates and bug fixes

If debugging is the process of removing bugs then programming must be the process of putting them in. (Edgar Dykstra)

Too many small fixes and quality of life improvements to mention, but these are the most noticeable:

• Page loading times have improved
• If you add a new user and their signup email doesn’t arrive, you can find the link in the User section of your Lab Dashboard
• Improved box tray visualisation (trays that were not square acted weirdly sometimes)
• Hover over users or teams to see usages stats and team members
• Fixed team assignments that sometimes misfired

User Tip Straight from the Lab Trenches: Sharing Fridges Between Labs

If you’re sharing a fridge with another lab and want to clearly delineate your spaces, try this:

• Create a dedicated team for the boxes that shouldn’t be accessible to your lab members (i.e. that are used by the other lab)
• Intentionally leave this team without any members
• Assign the reserved boxes to this empty team

Your box labels and fridge layout remain accurate to your physical setup, while ensuring that your lab members can only access their designated boxes.
